Kalki Koechlin

Actress Kalki Koechlin will be soon seen opposite Naseeruddin Shah in her upcoming release Waiting. The actress, who is known for her unconventional roles, tells us about the experience of working with the maverick actor, her unabashed views on the media, and how criticism, especially in the online world doesn’t bother her anymore.

Who is it that you are ‘waiting’ for in the film [Laughs] I am waiting for my husband, who is in a coma. The film is a story of two individuals who meet incidentally in the hospital and how their journeys take an exciting turn thereafter. I am playing a ‘Bombay’ girl who’s very modern and tech-savvy and Naseerji plays an older man with an intellectual air about him. It is the journey of how two human beings become friends.

Were you nervous starring with someone of Naseer saab’s calibre When I shot The Girl In Yellow Boots, I used to forget my lines. I was in such awe of him initially but later we spent time together and I was normal. So by the time we started shooting Waiting, I already knew him well.

What makes you choose such unconventional films It is very instinctive. I choose films based on my gut instinct. I always prefer roles that I haven’t done so far. I feel people love to see me in such unconventional roles.

Being a public figure, what are your views on the evil side of social media I don’t acknowledge them (trolls and critics) anymore. It used to bother me when I started my career six years back but not anymore. I was in Jaipur recently and someone showed an article about me and I completely ignored it. I am used to it by now I guess.

So you mean to say that the press isn’t important to you I never said that. Press is an important part of my life and has a role in making me a star. I don’t acknowledge anything written about my personal life. I just do my job.

What is next for you after waiting My next is Death In The Gunj directed by Konkana Sen Sharma.
