Some of her fans bookmark her breezy outfits for Sunday brunch even as shutterbugs went crazy over her risqué sari-blouse avatar at Big B’s Diwali bash in Juhu this year. But for aapro Parsi girl Tara Sutaria, who made her debut with Karan Johar’s Student of the Year 2 (2019), life is indeed shimmering with sequins of hits, misses and sparkles of love. While the social media and tinsel town grapevine has been spinning yarns about her relationship with hunky Aadar Jain (grandson of Raj Kapoor), Tara is spinning the wheels for the success of her new movie Marjavaan (2019) with Sidharth Malhotra. In a candid chat, Tara talks about why she didn’t do Kabir Singh, her upcoming projects and relationship with Aadar…

Is it true that you and Aadar Jain are dating each other since there are lots of reports about it?
Aadar and I have a lot of friends in common. I knew something or the other would be written about us but unfortunately that’s how it works when you are public life. Aadar is a sweet guy. We go out a lot and get photographed together but I am fine with it. We really enjoy each other’s company. Yes, he is very special to me and that’s it. Period.

Your debut film Student Of The Year 2 (aka SOTY2 ) did not do too well, how did you move on from that?
I think it did make more money than the first one. Also, if I am not mistaken it was not a failure. I just want to clarify that it did well. It didn’t do as much as people expected but that’s fine. I am a huge fan of Student of The Year. I hope they make third part too. I couldn’t have asked for a better debut and feel proud to be part of the Dharma family.

You were also offered a role in Kabir Singh which faced a backlash, why didn’t you do it?
I was shooting SOTY2 and that’s when I was offered Kabir Singh. I had given my dates to this film. I am a big fan of Arjun Reddy and Kabir Singh. I may not agree with some people but I respect their opinion. I feel when you are an artist and a creative person you have the artistic right to show what you believe in and what you like. Mr Wanga made it in south and remade it in Hindi. He has every right to make his characters do what they want. It’s not a true story. It is a work of fiction. I don’t think we can decide what was right and wrong. At end of the film, he does slap Kabir so if you are talking about equality, both are doing it.

Your movie Marjavaan seems to be a typical Bollywood commercial movie?
Yes it is a masala film. It is super fun to play these roles. It is exciting and that’s the plus point of being an actor. You get to play different roles. I don’t think any young actor today has played the role of a mute girl, hence it is different. The love story is different. There are very few films that have the hero killing the heroine, and that was intriguing for me.

What is your take on good looks and some actors being labeled as ‘just another pretty face’?
I don’t care about how I look. It is interesting to don different looks as an actor. I think things are changing and it is high time people look at women as equals. We have amazing people like Priyanka, Zoya who are changing things around. They are changing the perception of women. If we choose the right films then we can bring about change. It is great to look pretty and beautiful in films, but I am excited to do different roles in movies.

You have a twin sister Pia…does she also have plans to enter Bollwyood?
We are fraternal twins. She has got offers but she is not interested. She does not even know my movie is up for release. It is nice because when I go back home, I can have a very normal conversation with her. She is obsessed with dance and she is doing really well. She has her own company.
