Mahant Yogi Adityanath, an Indian priest and politician, and a well-known proponent of the Hindutva ideology, recently became the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh. Yogi Adityanath has been an MP from Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, for five terms in a row since 1998. He is the head priest (mahant) of the Gorakhnath Math, a Hindu temple in Gorakhpur, a position to which he was elevated after the death of his guru, Mahant Avaidyanath, in 2014. Yogi Adityanath is also the founder of the Hindu Yuva Vahini, a militant Hindu youth organisation that has been involved in many communal controversies. Making him the UP CM has raised hopes amongst Hindus that the construction of the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya may be on the agenda. However, Ganesha predicts that UP’s development will be his topmost priority.

Yogi Adityanath has created history by becoming the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh when the BJP emerged as the winning party in the UP Assembly elections. His oath-taking chart has some striking features.

Yogi Adityanath will kick off reforms
Generally, fixed ascendant and shirsodaya signs are preferred for the oath-taking ceremony. Yogi Adityanath’s oath-taking chart has Cancer ascendant, a movable sign. Also, the Lord of ascendant Moon is debilitated in the fifth house. It indicates that Yogi Adityanath’s government will be very active, industrious and unbending from the beginning. It will take some innovative steps and reforms will be implemented as soon as the government takes charge.

He will push his agenda despite roadblocks
The Lord of Moon sign, Mars, which is also a yogakaraka is placed in the tenth house. Mars shows the strength and power of the new government. The Yogi Adityanath government will be willing to implement its agenda with determination despite several obstacles. The Lord of seventh house, Saturn is placed in the sixth house (house of enemy) indicating that the opposition parties will unitedly oppose the government’s policy and that it will be a mammoth task for them to avoid controversies.

Yogi Adityanath Will improve law and order in the state
Mars is aspecting the ascendant Moon, both of which indicate that the ministry of home and public health will be the prime focus. There will be major reforms and administrative efforts to improve the image of the police and other law enforcing agencies. However, the aggressive steps may also bring criticism and opposition from various sections of the society.

The government will focus on education and youth development
The ascendant Lord Moon in the fifth house indicates much more focus on youth development in the state. With the presence of three planets in the ninth house and exchange between Mercury and Jupiter, there will be hyper-activities regarding religious issues. The government will take firm steps to ban cow slaughter and will also force its agenda to remove the triple talak.

He will tackle Ram Mandir issue with tact
Sensitive issues like Ram Mandir will remain in prime focus for the new government. However, the exchange between Jupiter and Mercury indicates that the government may rely more on the negotiation path. The government may take some out-of-the-box steps to build the temple, though it will trigger some fresh challenges.

Uttar Pradesh may have to fall back on Centre for funds
Rahu in the second house indicates that the government will focus on taxes/revenue generation and will implement financial measures to meet the state’s demands. However, the government may face a financial crunch and may have to rely heavily on the centre’s support. The government will focus more on women empowerment, social welfare schemes and infrastructure development.

Date of taking oath: March 19, 2017
Time of taking oath: 14.20
Place of taking oath: Lucknow, UP

Conclusion
The power of Yogi Adityanath is curtailed. There will be major controversies in the state after November 2017 and the first half of 2018 will remain a tough period for him. Also, the period between March 2019 and September 2019 will be very crucial. However, even amid controversies, the new government will focus on state building programmes.
