Mumbai: The Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) civic body poll manifesto had failed to mention ambitious coastal road project. Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis released party’s manifesto on Tuesday, in which there was not mention of the coastal road project.

“I personally typed the manifesto. But while setting the page, the reference of coastal road project got deleted. The completion of coastal road is our promise, and we are working on it,” said Bhalchandra Shirsat who led manifesto committee of the party.

The coastal road project that ideated in 2010 when Congress-Nationalist Congress Party government was in power in the state has remained on paper.

The initial plan was to build the road from Nariman Point to Jogeshwari. But later the Congress-NCP government decided by then to push coastal road project till Dahisar. And now all parties have promised to build the coastal road from Nariman Point to Dahisar in their respective rallies.

After coming to power, in a bid to promote big-ticket infrastructure, the BJP has repeatedly mentioned the coastal road project as its priority. After Metro phase seven and elevated train tracks projects on western and harbour lines, coastal road project had created a buzz in the city.

The BJP in its manifesto has promised 24x7 water supply to the citizens, health card and potholes free roads. Even on the last page, the party has mentioned all big-ticket projects that could be completed only after monetary help by state and central government.

Reacting to BJP’s manifesto, Shiv Sena MLC Anil Parab said, “This shows how they are misfit to run Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). Coastal Road is the most important project as it is the need of the hour. How can you expect good governance from a party which even forgets to mention such an important project?”
