Love having your drink but still hope to remain in shape? A recent study has found that tequila is your go-to drink in such a case. Most spirits are fattening and have a high calorie count, but tequila can help you lose some weight. Not just that, the drink can also reportedly lower your blood sugar too.

A research paper was presented at the American Chemical Society, which said that it’s the naturally occurring sugars in agave — from which tequila is made — that can help lower your blood sugar. Thanks to these being non-digestible, they act as dietary fibre and not raise your bloody sugar. In turn, agavins can also help people feel like they’re full, which eventually makes them eat less.

Dr Mercedes G. López and her team fed a group of mice a standard diet and added agavins to their daily water. They weighed the mice daily and checked their glucose blood levels weekly. Most mice that drank agavins ate less, lost weight and their blood glucose levels decreased when compared to other sweeteners such glucose, fructose, sucrose, agave syrup and aspartame.

So, the next time you go out partying, and are on a diet, tequila is your best friend.
