In the cut-throat world of fashion retailing, vintage clothing is going strong than ever. The clientele base of vintage clothing includes tourists, designers, celebrities and models. The clothing items range from t-shirts, casual dresses to cowboy hats, fur jackets, and even watches. This genre has survived several seismic shifts in this fickle world of fashion merchandising, courtesy of some brilliant entrepreneurs and their unique collections.

Patrick Matamoros one such brand creator, boosting the genre of vintage fashion like never before by supplying the rarest pieces of tees to Hollywood top celebrities. The street-wear cult figure and founder of Chapel, has made celebs like Kanye West, Justin Bieber, Frances Bean Cobain, Rihanna, Frank Ocean and Kylie Jenner fall in love with the concept of throwback t-shirts. A sum of $1000 for a piece of tee might sound ridiculous to many, but the product becomes immediately priceless when one traces its age-old history.

This was the foundation of Patrick’s journey in the fashion industry, when he began flipping vintage tees at NYC flea markets. After tasting immense success through his Chapel line, he launched his new brand Saint Luis in 2017. Named after the entrepreneur’s son and grandfather, Saint Luis offers vintage one-of-one clothing at a reasonable price. The brand retails a single piece for $300 to $500and still maintains an exclusivity, keeping with Patrick’s model for Chapel.

However, unlike Chapel, Saint Luis functions from an e-commerce platform.
It has been an on-the-go business for Patrick, who doesn’t actually have a store to sell his merchandise. “It’s just a phone number passed on by word-of-mouth. I travel around the globe with vintage tees in hand, popping up shops in hotels. I am a travelling salesman. If anyone needs a perfectly rigged or threadbare tee or hoodie, I’m your man. Saint Luis is my actual mission. I am here to change the world, and this is what I am for,” Patrick said, as we spoke of his brand and its legacy.
It can be rightly said that if Chapel is a part of Patrick’s origin then Saint Luis reflects the artist he is. The vintage clothing expert doesn’t let his clients buy anything that doesn’t look good on them. He is equally passionate about curating each piece of shirt, right from the search process to the client selection. Patrick, who gets the best price from clients he randomly meets at subway or in plane, said he was passionate about punk and gothic rock music since his childhood days. This ultimately made him land in the vintage clothing fashion industry, giving him the perfect selling proposition.

Be it a perfectly worn-in threadbare Billie Holiday tee, a 2pac poster shirt or the famous beyond-rare Air Jordan top, Patrick has it all. Patrick is not just a fashion entrepreneur, he is a merchant of untold stories, the ones his t-shirts so uniquely convey.
