Islamabad: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Thursday disposed of a contempt case against Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan after he personally appeared before the top electoral body and submitted a written apology for the critical remarks he made in January.

The PTI chief is facing another contempt case over a contemptuous statement against the top electoral watchdog issued in September this year.

During the hearing, ECP member Irshad Kaiser raised points on Imran Khan’s contempt case, and asked for an apology. “We have already apologized twice,” PTI chief’s counsel, Babar Awan, said.

Mr Awan also asked the electoral watchdog to resolve the matter at the earliest while reiterating that Imran Khan “respects the law, and all state institutions.”

PTI secretary general Jahangir Khan Tareen, spokespersons Fawad Chaudhry and Naeemul Haque accompanied the chairman during his appearance before bench of the ECP. It came after a non-bailable arrest warrants against the PTI leader were quashed.
