Mumbai: Slamming chief minister Devendra Fadnavis’s pet micro-irrigation scheme Jalyukta Shivar as a “den of corruption”, Congress state chief Ashok Chavan has asked for a probe. He has said that the present government is more about marketing and less about work.

The Congress is in the third phase of its “Jan Sangharsh Yatra” and has stepped up its attack on the state government over irrigation. Meanwhile, leader of the Opposition in the Council, Dhananjay Munde, has demanded that the criteria for drought be changed from tehsil to village.

“The Jalyukta Shivar scheme was presented as a game changer in the state’s irrigation sector. It was heavily advertised. However, as per the new report on the water table in the state, the same has dropped almost 1 to 3m in places where the Jalyukta Shivar works have been carried out. This means that not water but money has got irrigated in the homes of BJP leaders and contractors,” said Mr Chavan at a rally.
