MUMBAI: Students of Maharashtra are ecstatic as the Bombay high court on Thursday rejected the petition of 15 students who applied for admissions in state-based medical colleges through the state quota without fulfilling the state admission quota criteria.

“It is a landmark decision as it has considered about us students of the state, and this will only lead to more opportunities for students like us,” said a student. Apart from rejecting the petition of these students, the court has asked the Directorate of Medical Education and Research (DMER), which manages the MBBS/BDS examinations in the state, to follow all the criteria for each and every student during the admissions.

“The 2018 batch mates are quite lucky that such a decision is being directed to them because this will open up more seats for students, which means more opportunities for them,” said a parent. “There is always a need for a borderline for any procedure and if the rules are being made for the students, they are bound to follow no matter what state they belong to,” said another parent.
