Maharashtra CM calls for silt removal from water bodies
The government has taken several mitigation measures in order to provide relief to drought-affected people.
Mumbai: Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday directed the Nagpur district administration to remove silt from rivers, ponds and drains. He has also instructed them to avail required water through tankers regularly.
The CM held a drought review meeting with the sarpanchas and gram sevaks of Nagpur, Wardha, Washim, Nanded and Hingoli districts at his official residence at Varsha.
Thus far, Mr Fadnavis has taken a review meeting of 21 districts’ drought situation.
The government has taken several mitigation measures in order to provide relief to drought-affected people. On Sunday, Mr Fadnavis had directed all guardian secretaries to check the implementation of instructions, which were issued for the arresting the drought situation in the state.
Mr Fadnavis said that the administration should cautiously take mitigation measures to provide relief to the drought-affected farmers. Water supply through tankers should be made regularly and water should be provided as per requirement.
Drought has been declared in 306 villages of Mukhed, Degalur and Umari Talukas of Nanded district.
Mr Fadnavis directed the Hingoli district administration to make special efforts about reconstructing old water supply schemes.
