Two arrested with 2.66 kg drugs worth Rs 54 lakh

Mumbai: Mumbai Crime branch has nabbed two persons from Ghatkopar for allegedly possessing banned narcotics worth Rs 54 lakh in the grey market. The seized narcotics included 2.66 kg of Ephedrine, Bromhezine, Methamphitamine and Ketamine.  

The accused are being questioned about the source of the banned drugs and the intended end-users, said police sources.  

The accused were identified as Jayesh Shah and Deepak Gupta, both in their thirties, who were apprehended from Pant Nagar area in Ghatkopar. The accused, residents of Samata Nagar, had come to sell the contraband in Ghatkopar.

“We arrested the accused following a tip off. There is no clarity yet on the source of drugs and who were the recipients,” said a crime branch officer.  

Preliminary probe revealed that Shah used the narcotics money for small time lending on steep percentages. The officials are in the process of gathering information if the accused have past cases against them.
