Mumbai: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) House witnessed verbal exchanges between Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress corporators over an audio clip in which BJP MLA Ameet Satam was allegedly heard abusing and threatening a civic official. Congress corporators demanded that the civic body should register a police complaint against the MLA in the matter.

In the clip, which went viral couple of days back, Mr Satam is allegedly heard abusing an official from building proposal department in K-West ward asking him the whereabouts of another BMC officer who reportedly did not respond to his calls and messages. He also referred to the municipal commissioner calling him back while the officer chose to ignore his calls.

Raising the issue in the BMC House on Saturday, Opposition leader Ravi Raja from Congress said, “The manner in which an elected representative has spoken about a civic official is highly condemnable. There is also a mention of the municipal commissioner in the audio clip. Hence the BMC should register a police complaint.”

Manoj Kotak, BJP group leader, said that the BMC should wait for a police investigation to be completed before taking any decision. He said, “Mr Satam has already approached the police stating that the audio tape is doctored. It should be noted that the tape has surfaced only after he raised a scam in the BMC's building proposal department.”

Meanwhile, Congress corporator Ashraf Azmi has written a letter to civic chief Ajoy Mehta demanding a police complaint against Mr Satam.
