Jadavpur: Youth kills self, kin goes on rampage

According to them, the sale of drugs in the area has shot up as many youth are addicted to it.

Accompanied by some neighbours the family of the deceased went on rampage at three shops before setting the tea stall on fire.

Kolkata: A youth, allegedly addicted to drug, committed suicide in Jadavpur early on Monday.

Agitated over the death his family members along with the local residents burst into anger alleging rampant trade of drug in the area. They vandalised some shops and torched a tea-stall also.

When a police team tried to pacify them, they also came under attack. Later, on Sunday night a youth Amit Roy was found hanging from the ceiling in a room at his home on Prince Ghulam Mohammed Shah Road. He was declared brought dead at a hospital. No suicide note was found, sources claimed. His family members however claimed that he used to take drugs which left him depressed.

According to them, the sale of drugs in the area has shot up as many youth are addicted to it. Accompanied by some neighbours the family of the deceased went on rampage at three shops before setting the tea stall on fire.

A police team rushed to the spot. One of the team members, an officer, was beaten by the angry mob. Later reinforcements were sent.

A police picket has been posted there. Three persons were detained by the cops for questionning.
