Man charred to death as car goes up in flames

The deceased driver was identified as Sumit, a resident of Sonepat in Haryana. He was working as a driver for the past six months.

New Delhi: In a tragic incident, a 23-year-old man was charred to death after his car caught fire near Ambedkar Nagar area in the early hours of Saturday.

The deceased driver was identified as Sumit, a resident of Sonepat in Haryana. He was working as a driver for the past six months. The incident came to fore after the Delhi Fire Service (DFS) received an anonymous call at 1.48 am.

According to police, information was received at about 1.50 am regarding a road accident at BRT Road near Sheikh Sarai on Saturday. It was further revealed that the vehicle was loaded with newspapers, which caught fire and set the vehicle ablaze.

Upon reaching the spot, it was found that the front portion of the vehicle was damaged. It appeared that the vehicle had been hit by something. The driverĀ  sustained severe burn injuries in the mishap. He was immediately rushed to Safdarjung Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
