New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday refused to interfere with Maharashtra government’s ordinance enforcing 16% reservation for socially and Educationally Backward Classes (SEBC) also known as Maratha quota for the postgraduate medical courses from the current academic year of 2019-2020.

Observing at any interference at this stage would lead to a "chaos”, a vacation bench of Justice Sanjiv Khanna and Justice said, “We are not inclined to interfere with the impugned order passed by the High Court as the admission process for the academic year 2019-20 has concluded on 17th June, 2019.”

However, the court clarified, “We, however, clarify that we have not commented on the question of the validity of the Socially and Educationally Backward Classes (SEBC) Act.”
