Tamil Nadu: In a shocking incident a man was attacked, stabbed and beaten mercilessly for posting a picture of consuming beef soup in Tamil Nadu’s Nagapattinam.

A man named Mohammed Faizan, resident of Boravacheri village in the Nagapattinam district posted a picture of him on Facebook while having beef soup on July 9. Seeing a post the members of Hindu Makkal Katchi group barged in Mohammed's home and had beaten him up mercilessly. Mohammed Faizan was stabbed and attacked with rods. Victim's family has demanded action taken against the attackers.

According to reports, police have arrested Dinesh Kumar, Ganesh Kumar, Mohan Kumar, and Agasthian under charges of an attempt to murder.

Attacks on beef eaters were often been reported in Northern states. However, in rare cases, such attack ever happens from southern states and rarely from Tamil Nadu.

In the wake of an attack on beef eaters and to curb mob lynching, recently Uttar Pradesh government amended the law. The assailants would be awarded jail terms ranging from seven years to life imprisonment and have to pay fines.
