Lucknow: Even as the BJP is trying to deal with the situation arising due to the dilution of the SC/ST Act, a UP minister has gone ahead and announced that the Supreme Court decision on the issue is correct.

UP minister Om Prakash Rajbhar, who is known more for his controversies than his work, has now said that he supports the changes that the apex court has ordered in the SC/ST Act.

“The Act is being widely misused and innocent people are targeted. Cases should be registered only after proper investigations”, he told reporters on Tuesday.

The minister further explained that while he was in favour of the SC/ST Act, he did not support the victimisation of innocent persons.

“If there is a fight between two persons, the police include a dozen more which is wrong. Similar action should be taken in dowry cases which have become a tool for harassment”, he said.

Om Prakash Rajbhar is the first minister in the Yogi Adityanath government to speak out in favour of the SC decision on the dilution of the SC/ST Act.
