A ring ceremony turned fatal for a 20-year-old youth who lost his life while trying to fill balloons from a gas cylinder that burst during the function.

The incident happened at about 9.30 pm on Saturday at Danapani beach of Malad, where the ring ceremony of businessman Jayesh Tanna had been organised.

The event manager for the ceremony, one Thakkar, was accompanied by his friend Mahadev Awsare and his 20-year-old son Manish Awsare. The Awsare family resides at Bhagat Singh Nagar, Goregaon.

According to police official, Thakkar and Manish were filling balloons with a gas cylinder when they encountered some problem with the cylinder’s knob. Manish then forcefully tried to turn the knob and gas started leaking and the cylinder exploded. Manish was severely injured after which he was taken to a Shatabdi Hospital, where he died after a few hours.

The police has registered a case of accidental death in the matter.
