When s*** hit the train timings
Commuters stopped a local from Ambernath to CST for almost 15 minutes during the morning peak hours on Thursday after someone had defecated in it.
The incident occurred at 8.11 am when a CST train originating from Ambernath pulled into the station and commuters realised that the train was filthy. The commuters then pulled the chain and forced the railway officers to clean it, causing 10 trains to be cancelled and delaying peak hour trains by 15 minutes. “The train immediately behind this train was delayed by 20 minutes. This affected the other trains by five minutes. A compartment for the handicapped was found to be dirty,” said an official, requesting anonymity.
This is the second time that the Central Railway saw such an incident. Earlier, a man had been caught for continuously defecating in the ladies coach.
CR divisional railway manager Amitabh Ojha said that this happens often as a lot of trains are parked in carsheds like Kalyan and Kalwa. “When they are parked at a car shed we check them and then it goes into service. There is a time gap when a train is unsupervised and bad elements take advantage of it,” he said.
The CR has appointed Eureka Forbes as its cleaner at CST, but trains are sprayed with water on a rota system.
