Central Railway (CR) has suspended a woman ticket clerk after a video shot by a passenger, now identified as Navdeep Bihani, went viral on social media.

The video of the incident that occurred on November 12 shows the woman ticket clerk at the counter, counting cash even as passengers wait for her to issue tickets. The passengers are then seen asking the woman to stop counting cash and issue tickets as the trains are scheduled to leave soon. The woman’s reply is not audible but comes across as aggressive. Finally, the video has the woman shoving a small square board (used to cover the glass curve from where money is exchanged) against a passenger’s hand and refusing to issue tickets anymore.

Bihani is heard saying, “We have taken a video of your behaviour and we will lodge a complaint against you,” to which the woman is heard replying, “Do whatever you want but you will not get a ticket.” The clerk is then seen telling railway police to take away Bihani’s mobile as he is taking a video of the incident.CR chief public relations Officer (CPRO) Narendra Patil said that the CR has taken cognisance of the video and decided to suspend the lady clerk suo moto.

“It was a situation that could have been better handled by both the commuters as well as our ticket clerk. Hence, we have taken a decision to suspend the clerk despite no official complaint being registered against her,” said Mr Patil.
