Twenty-three-old Rajesh Verma, a resident of Hyderabad, had to give up his job because of the body pain caused by a form of muscular dystrophy, a hereditary condition marked by progressive weakening and wasting of the muscles. The condition made him almost bed-ridden and despite continuous treatment over the past five years, he didn’t improve.

When his condition deteriorated, he came to Mumbai for treatment late this year and got a new lease of life, thanks to stem cell therapy.

Rajesh was suffering from a genetic disorder, Facioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy that killed his father a few years ago, making the 23-year-old the sole breadwinner of his family.

Facioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy (FSHD) is an autosomal dominantly inherited condition caused by deletion of a repetitive element on chromosomes. FSHD, the most common form of muscular dystrophy, affects mainly males and is caused by a faulty dystrophin gene.

Despite consulting many medical specialists and physiotherapists and trying a variety of treatments, Rajesh only got temporary relief from time to time. With no other option in hand, he came to Mumbai for his treatment and doctors at StemRx Hospital opted for stem cell therapy after analysing his condition.

Dr Pradeep Mahajan at StemRX hospital said “Within the first week of cellular therapy, Rajesh could get relief from lower back and knee pain... Followed by a series of sessions of cellular therapy, the patient was able to lift his right arm to an appreciable extent and was also able to touch his shoulder backwards”. Rajesh has finally recovered and returned to work in his old office last month.
