The police and security agencies are tight-lipped regarding the time arrested mafia don Chhota Rajan will arrive in New Delhi. It is learnt that Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis is in touch with the Centre’s top brass, including NSA Ajit Doval, and is discussing the modalities of Rajan’s quick return to Mumbai to face trial in numerous cases, including those under the stringent MCOCA. Mr Fadnavis may meet Mr Doval on Wednesday.

Even before Rajan set foot on Indian soil, he created a flutter by saying he would help “fight terror and Dawood” and that he reposes faith in the Indian government to give him justice. Rajan claimed all the cases registered against him are fabricated and false and alleged that there is an “unholy nexus” between certain officials of the Mumbai police and his rival, Dawood Ibrahim. He once again claimed that he is not afraid of Dawood and would return to Mumbai to stand trial. “Some members of the Mumbai police are working in tandem with Dawood. I will keep on fighting against terrorism and Dawood. I am not scared of Dawood,” said Rajan. “The Mumbai Police have been unjust to me. The government in Delhi should do justice to me,” he said. In New Delhi, a high-level meeting of senior Delhi police and CBI officials took place at the CBI headquarters on Tuesday. It was attended by joint commissioner of police (Special Cell, Delhi police) Vivek Gogia and other senior CBI officials.
