Sheena Bora case: Judicial custody of accused extended
A metropolitan magistrate court on Saturday extended the judicial custody of Indrani Mukerjea — the prime accused in the Sheena Bora murder case — and two others till November 20 after their week-long remand ended on Saturday. The court also allowed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to interrogate Indrani and her former husband Sanjiv Khanna till November 17.
Earlier, on October 31, the court had granted permission to interrogate all the three accused in jail till November 7. Public prosecutor Kavita Patil moved an application and told the court that certain documents needed to be confronted and Indrani’s voice samples were yet to be taken and, thus, judicial custody of all the accused needed to be extended.
On November 3, Indrani had consented for a voice sample test to be conducted on her. The CBI had moved an application before the magistrate seeking her voice samples, saying that it had got hold of some call recordings that purportedly featured her voice and, hence, verification was needed.
In August this year, Indrani, Khanna and Rai were arrested for murdering 24-year-old Sheena and disposing off her body in Raigad in April 2012.
Sheena was the daughter of Indrani from her first husband and was allegedly strangled in a car by her mother with the help of Khanna and Rai. The trio then allegedly tried to burn her body before dumping it in the forest.
After a series of goof-ups, the state government had transferred the case to the CBI for investigation. Indrani, who is not keeping well, was recently hospitalised after her platelet count dipped drastically.
