Peeved with KEM, Sion hospitals, man gives false bomb alerts
A BMC employee was arrested for allegedly making hoax calls to Mumbai police against Sion and King Edward Memorial (KEM) Hospitals as he was frustrated with the manner in which the two hospitals treated him when he was a patient there.
The accused, Shakti Vengur Zulu, has been a permanent employee of BMC for the past few years and had taken sick leaves last month and prior to that. Last month, when he was admitted to Sion Hospital, he had to run around for quite some time just for a doctor’s certificate for the sick leave. Later, a senior from Mr Zulu’s office asked for a fitness certificate for which, he had to again run around for long, this time in KEM Hospital. Therefore, in anger, he decided to make hoax calls against the two hospitals. According to police officials, “He called the main control room of Mumbai Police at around 12.30 pm on November 12 and said he hailed from West Bengal and someone was going to plant bombs at the two hospitals.”
The Criminal Investigation Unit (CIU) team immediately traced the caller’s location and arrested Mr Zulu on November 13. “The man, identified as Shakti Velu, is a Class IV employee with BMC. We are investigating whether the reason given by him is true or not. He was handed over to Azad Maidan police station and arrested under Section 505 (2) of the IPC,” said DCP Dhananjay Kulkarni.
