Media students at Rizvi College to partly run new tv channel
In a bid to provide students hands-on experience in electronic media, the Rizvi Education Society has decided to start a cable channel that will be partially operated by the students of Bachelor of Mass Media course at Rizvi College of Arts, Science and Commerce.
According to officials, this is a first-of-its-kind initiative by any institution and will be available throughout Mumbai and will run round-the-clock. The student-centric channel, will be named ‘Campus 24x7.’
Speaking about the channel, Dr M Z Farouqui, principal of Rizvi College of Arts, Science and Commerce said, “The concept of the channel has been finalised and it will be launched in November. Though professionals hired by RES will operate the channel, BMM students will be responsible for generating the content.”
Dr Farouqui added the initiative was the brainchild of Dr Akhtar Rizvi, president of RES and said work on the content would be overseen by both the college and the RES.
He elaborated that while other institutions offering the BMM programme have screenings of content made by students on specific occasions, the ‘Campus 24x7’ channel would run the same on a regular basis.
This means the students would be doing conceptualisation, scripting, shooting, editing and packaging of content after getting approval from their department.
The Zainabia Trust, a sister organisation of RES, already operates a cable channel for religious content.
