A Manipuri woman fell to her death from the fourth floor Kharghar residence of her Nigerian boyfriend’s friend, also a Nigerian, at around 2 am on Thursday. The police has arrested the deceased’s boyfriend however his friend, who was present at the time of the incident, is absconding. The police has said that as the owner of the house doesn’t have the absconder’s documents, action will be taken against him.
Nangolia Chong (32) had come to Mumbai from Manipur three years ago to help her boyfriend, Ujogra, in his business and was staying near Kopharkhairne. At about 2 am on Thursday, she fell from the French window of Ujogra’s friend’s fourth floor residence in Kharghar. She was rushed to the hospital however she succumbed to her head injuries. “I was on duty when I suddenly heard a loud noise. When I rushed to check, I saw she had fallen in the lobby,” said a watchman of the society.
According to the police, at the time of the incident, allegedly both Ujogra and his friend were present at home, watching a film on television and drinking alcohol. “We have arrested Ujogra though his friend fled the spot and we are searching for him. Preliminary investigation has revealed that Chong, Ujogra and his friend were drinking alcohol in Ujogra’s friend’s flat in Kharghar. An already drunk Chong wanted more to drink and so, she went inside the bedroom to look for bottles of alcohol. While searching, she fell off from the French window of the balcony. Ujogra told us he didn’t even know she went inside and fell down,” said a police official.
Police investigation is underway but actual reason for death has not yet been confirmed. In the course of their search for Ujogra’s friend, the police came to know that he is a tenant and the owner of the house does not have his documents. The police said they will take action against the owner.
Meanwhile, the Chong family is in a state of shock after the unfortunate incident that claimed the life of their only daughter.
