Goof ups by the University of Mumbai’s examination section never seem to cease as students of MA semester III (CBSGS), who were appearing for the history paper on Wednesday, were surprised to find a different question paper at 11 am. The university rectified the mistake by 12.20 pm by sending the correct question papers and said that an inquiry was initiated wherein the paper setter was found guilty of putting the wrong paper code due to which the mess took place.

Speaking about the goof up, an official from the examination section said that they started receiving calls from some of the 23 different centres where the exams were being held in the city regarding a wrong subject question paper being received by them. “As the calls started after the scheduled start, it took some time to verify the complaints, by 11.40 am it was confirmed that while the paper was history – historical method, the question paper that was sent to the centres was of history of histriography,” said the official.

In all, 585 students were appearing for the paper at 23 centres and due to the goof up students had to wait till 12.20 pm when the correct question papers were delivered to the centres. “All the centres were asked to allow students to appear for the stipulated two hours. Thereafter the exam went off smoothly without any hiccup,” said the official.

Confirming the goof up, officiating controller of examination Deepak Wasave said that after the centres were sent the correct question papers, an inquiry was set up wherein the paper setter and other officials involved were questioned. “After the inquiry it came to light that the problem occurred as the paper setter had mistakenly put the wrong paper code, due to which the entire problem occurred. We will be holding a meeting of university officials to ascertain the quantum of punishment for the paper setter,” said Mr Wasave.
