Government frames new rules over ‘chikki’
The government of Maharashtra on Tuesday informed the Bombay high court that a new policy has been formed and procedures have been set out over the issue of alleged distribution of sub-standard ‘chikki’ in government schools, which need to be followed while purchasing such items.
Advocate General Shrihari Aney informed the court that as per the policy, the process of e-tendering has been made compulsory for any and every purchase. He also told the court that under the policy several categories have been formed, setting out procedures that will have to be followed by the state departments before purchasing any items. Financial constraints have been set so as to reduce any allegation of corruption.
The division bench of Justice V M Kanade and Justice Revati Mohite Dere was hearing a public interest litigation filed by Sandeep Ahire and others seeking an inquiry by a retired high court judge into the alleged Rs 206 crore ‘chikki scam’. The court has posted the petition for hearing on December 10.
The court on Tuesday was informed that the Government Resolution with new policies has been issued on October 30. Advocate Aney also told the court that if the purchase is between Rs 5,000 to rupees Rs 50,000 per annum then e-tenders would have to be issued.
