Education department nixes proposals
The education department has been forced to take down the recommendations of the committee on the National New Education Policy due to its controversial nature.
The ministry has said that the recommendations were taken down because they were made by experts and did not have any inputs from the officials, hence after that is done it will be put up again on the website for feedback.
Speaking about the controversial recommendations in the draft report that was uploaded on the school education ministry’s website on Saturday for feedback and opinions of stakeholders, Member of Legislative Council Kapil Patil said that it was unfortunate that the education minister Vinod Tawde allowed such ‘seriously flawed’ recommendations to make their way on the draft report.
“I wrote to the chief minister drawing his attention to the recommendations that suggested increasing study time from six hours to eight hours and abolishing reservation to scheduled castes, schedule tribes and children with special needs,” said Mr Patil.
He added that he had demanded that due to the flaws there was a need to do away with the same and frame new recommendations.
Confirming that the draft report had been taken off the website, Nand Kumar, principal secretary, school education, said, “The recommendations did not have the inputs from officials, and hence they have been taken down so that the same can be added and uploaded for receiving feedback from the stake-holders.”
Some teachers’ organisations have demanded that, while in the past the recommendations had only a few experts contributing to it, the new ones should allow a say for teachers and principals as well.
