Drive to help flood victims kicks off
On the first day of the campaign taken up by MARD to help flood-affected people in Chennai, more than 100 clothes and essential medicines have been donated for the cause.
Maharashtra Association of Resident Doctors (MARD), launched their new campaign on Wednesday to collect clothes, medicine and money for the needy who were affected in the Chennai floods.
“We are running a campaign named ‘We Care’ to bridge the gap between medical practitioners and patients. Every month, we are taking up social issues. This month before Christmas, we have started this donation drive,” Dr Sagar Mundada, president of central MARD, told The Asian Age.
All the donated clothes, medicine and money collected by December 31 will be donated to the flood victims. Any interested donors can contribute to the cause. “They can contact any local MARD offices at KEM, JJ, Nair, Sion and Rajiv Gandhi Medical college hospital and donate,” he said.
“This has started with Christmas just around the corner. Rather than giving gifts and becoming secret Santa Clause for each other, let us do something for those who really need it at this time and help make their new year truly happy,” he said on Wednesday.
In the recent Chennai flood, more than 350 people lost their lives and over one lakh people have become homeless.
