Doctors call off mass bunk

Resident doctors across the state withdrew their mass bunk and resumed duties on Friday after education minister Vinod Tawde accepted five of their demands including increased stipend, paid maternity

Resident doctors across the state withdrew their mass bunk and resumed duties on Friday after education minister Vinod Tawde accepted five of their demands including increased stipend, paid maternity and TB leave.

Due to the continuous persistence of the Maharashtra Association of Resident Doctors (MARD), for the first time in the country, maternity and TB leave have been sanctioned for resident doctors.

Also, the government of Maharashtra has agreed to increase the stipend for the doctors from December along with the arrears.

“The final ministry-level meeting will be organised for freeship on December 8 in a special Assembly session meeting,” said Dr Sagar Mundala, president of central MARD.

“We are thankful to Mr Tawde for truly acting in an unbiased spirit,” he added.

“So, we called off the mass bunk at 2.30 pm and the resident doctors resumed duties from 4 pm on Friday,” he further said.

Further, Dr Vyavhare, who has been accused of mental harassment and sexual harassment has been transferred to GMC Chandrapur.

Regarding the other seven remaining demands placed in July 3, steps will be taken in a time-bound manner.

Coordinators would also be appointed to prevent future delay at directorate of medical education and research level, stated MARD in a release.
