The Directorate of Medical Education and Research (DMER) has announced the list of vacant seats for admission to both government and civic-run medical colleges in the state for the second year MBBS course. While there are in all 34 seats on offer of which 17 belong to the open category and 17 to the reserved category, activists say that lack of transparency in allotting the seats could lead to manipulation, which should be curbed by having an open process.

According to a notification issued by DMER, admissions are open for transfer of students to the second year MBBS for students who have cleared the first year completely.

As per the list, there are around eight vacant seats in Mumbai and Thane in both categories while the other vacancies are in the remaining hospitals in the state with Nagpur Government Hospital having the maximum vacancy of 10 seats in both categories. While previously transfers were not allowed, representations from various quarters prompted the government to allow the same on specific grounds.
