A 60-year-old businessman from Colaba was allegedly cheated by a 22-year-old woman who fled with his car, jewellery, money on Wednesday after sedating him.

A 60-year-old businessman from Colaba was allegedly cheated by a 22-year-old woman who fled with his car, jewellery, money on Wednesday after sedating him.

The businessman, who owns a steel factory in Nagpur, has filed an FIR with the Colaba police which is investigating the case. The woman, who claimed to be from Singapore, had sent a friend request to the businessman on WeeChat application a few weeks ago. They then started chatting regularly and became friends. She then suggested that she could visit Mumbai to meet him.

“They then met near the Mumbai Central railway station. Finding that she had no luggage with her, he asked her about it to which he replied that she had been robbed,” said an official from the Colaba police.

“The businessman then helped her with shopping after which they went to the Garden Hotel in Colaba. While drinking beer she allegedly added sedatives in his drink and then took off with his car, iPhone, cash, credit card and jewellery. When the businessman woke up in the morning around 4 am, he didn’t see the woman and then realised that his money, jewellery and car keys were missing. He then filed a complaint,” said the police official.

The car was later recovered from near the Mumbai Central station area. Crime PI of Colaba police station said, “She took away his iPhone, so we will be able to trace her location. We were also able to prepare a sketch of the woman based on the victim’s description and will arrest her soon. We have registered a complaint under section 392,” said Asaram Pathare, PI (crime), Colaba police station.
