RPF officials from the Shirdi railway station, with the help of Central Vigilance Team of RPF Central Railway of Mumbai CST, busted a racket where beef was being transported as “ice fish” to Delhi by the Kalka Express.

The police conducted a surprise raid at the Shirdi railway station when the Kalka Express arrived. RPF officer A.K. Singh said, “We laid a surprise trap and at that time we found the goods that the accused had booked looked suspicious. When we opened it we found meat instead of the ice fish that they declared.”

The RPF seized 38 packets of beef 80 kg each worth Rs 3 lakh from the parcel office. Mr Singh added, “The accused are absconded from the spot. We have taken all their details from the booking list and will find out the who was smuggling the beef. We have reason to believe that they have been doing this on a regular basis. We have handed over the case to the Manmad GRP officials.”

Manmad GRP registered the case under Section 420. A manhunt has been launched to nab two accused involved in the racket. The police said the meat has been sent to a laboratory for testing.
