Add Rahul to core committee: NCP
After finding itself in an embarrassing situation over the harsh remarks by Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi, the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) has suggested that the Congress include Mr Gandhi in its core committee to avoid further embarrassment since he (Mr Gandhi) takes “perfect decisions”. Mr Gandhi had recently slammed the UPA government over the controversial ordinance on convicted MPs and MLAs. Losing his temper, Mr Gandhi had called the ordinance “complete nonsense” and said that it should to be “torn and thrown away”. The purpose of the ordinance was to protect the convicted lawmakers and allow them to serve in Parliament. Consequently, the UPA government was compelled to withdraw the ordinance. Talking to reporters, NCP spokesperson Nawab Malik said that they have never opposed the withdrawal of the ordinance, but whatever happened was not good. The dignity of constitutional authorities must be maintained, he added. “The Congress should include Mr Gandhi in its core committee that is responsible for all of its major decisions. The decision to promulgate the ordinance was also taken by the core committee. After the recent development, we are of the opinion that the Congress should include Mr Gandhi as a member of the core committee since he takes perfect decisions,” said Mr Malik sarcastically.
