Mumbadevi temple celebrates festival with mangoes

Mumbai: Mumbadevi temple —which is the oldest temple in the city and constructed during the British era by fisher folk – held a mango festival on the occasion of Vaishakh Pournima Saturday. Close to 20,000 devotees visited the temple to seek the blessings of Mumbai Devi. Additionally, the Nav Chandi Yagya was performed in the temple premises by five priests invited specially for the Yagya. The management of the temple has decided to celebrate this festival every year on the same auspicious day.

The manager of Mumbadevi temple, Hemant Jadhav, told The Asian Age, “More than 300 dozen alphonso mangoes were offered to Goddess Mumbadevi. All the mangoes were contributed by regular devotees and have been distributed among the devotees as prasad.”

Looking at the kind of footfalls, security personnel has been deployed in large numbers by the temple management. L.T. Marg police station, too, has availed extra security.
