Dehydrated jackal rescued by RAWW

Mumbai: An adult female Indian golden jackal was rescued from a residential area near Navi Mumbai on Tuesday midnight. The Jackal was dehydrated and had minor injuries on body.

The team of Resqink Association for Wildlife Welfare (RAWW) rescued the jackal and brought it to Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) for medical examination and treatment in Mumbai.

A team of five members was assigned to conduct the rescue. RAWW team members including Joaquim Na-ik, Rajesh Mahadik, Pratha-mesh Panchal, Hasmukh Valanju and Pawan Sharma reached the spot with required medical support and other equipments.

The jackal was spotted at a residential area near Navi Mumbai.

At first, the residents assumed it to be an injured dog. However, they soon realized that is jackal and immediately contacted RAWW help line.  

Upon examination it was found that it was an adult female jackal and was dehydrated and had minor injuries. The jackal is currently under observation and shall be released soon.

Every year RAWW attends at least three to seven cases of jackal rescues.

RAWW team member said that they would like to thank Mr Srikant Raskar for informing them about the injured jackal. They need more responsible citizens like Mr Raskar who not only understand the importance of coexistence but are also taking active steps in making it possible in an urban environment.
