6 people, 11 cattle killed in lightning strike in Maharashtra

Mumbai: Three people were killed in separate incidents of lightning strike during unseasonal rain and thunderstorm in Nashik district, officials said on Wednesday. With this, the death toll in rain-related incidents in the last four days has gone up to six.

A 71-year-old woman, a 32-year-old man and a temple priest were struck by lightning in Satana, Dindori and Devla tehsils when unseasonal rains lashed these places on Tuesday, a police official said. Nine cattle also died in the incident, adding that the rain caused damage to 21 houses in Malegaon, Satana, Sinnar, Niphad and Nashik tehsils.

In another incident, Three youth had died due to lighting in Nashik district near Dindori taluka. Calamity struck them when trio were playing cricket on the ground. Two cows also died due to lightening on the same day.

On Wednesday, several part of Nashik witnessed heavy rain accompanied with gusty winds and lightning. Due to public holiday, many youngsters were playing cricket in Dindori. The deceased were identified as Anil Gave, Sagar Gave and Rohit Gaikwad.

The district administration will provide financial assistance to the kin of the deceased, an official at the collector’s office said. Earlier on Sunday night, four people died when lightning struck them in two separate incidents in the district, police said. 

Two cows died at Shvnai Village of Dindori and Devthan village of Yewala Taluka of Nashik. Due to sudden rains likely to affects crops of Onion, Wheat and Grapes.

Along with Nashik, heavy rains appeared at Murbad, Ambernath and Vasai Taluka of Thane. Dhule district also witnessed heavy rains and lightening.
