Mumbai: Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on Friday unveiled the rolling stock train model for the Metro 3.

The Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) will procure 31 trains of eight metro coaches each from Alstom India and under the “Make in India” initiative. The MMRC has decided to name Mumbai Metro 3 as ‘Aqua line’.

“Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis unveiled a model of rolling stock for Metro-3 at Mumbai. Metro line 3 will be called the Aqua line,” tweeted the chief minister’s Office.

The coaches will be in aqua green and beige colours to represent the Arabian Sea and to ensure a comfortable journey for the passengers. The length of the corridor is marked with 27 key stations out of which 26 will be underground.

Ashwini Bhide, Managing Director, MMRC said, “The manufacturing of trains would begin at Sri City factory of Alstom Transport India in November this year and the arrival of the first train is expected within a year.”

All the trains will be manufactured in Sri City, Andhra Pradesh. According to the reports, each metro trains will have eight coaches and it will be equipped with grade of automation four emailing the driverless operation mechanism.

It will also have programmable digital route map indicator, passenger announcement system for easy passenger disembark, dedicated space to accommodate wheel-chair for differently abled persons, voice communication facility between
passenger and controller in case of any emergency etc.
