Nadda seeks mandate for ‘good governance’

Mumbai: BJP working president, Jagat Prakash Nadda, Tuesday sought a mandate for “good governance” in Mumbai. Addressing a Prabuddh Sammelan at the Y.B. Chavan Centre, Mr Nadda said that the rule of law is followed in good governance, and there is no place for discrimination in it.

The government led by his party has tried to implement good governance in the last five years. Mr Nadda sought the support of the intellectuals for “good governance that would pave the way for the development of Maharashtra, especially in the health and education sectors.” Thought leaders, advocates, and the mavens of industry of Mumbai attended the Prabuddh Sammelan.

Mr Nadda said that good governance has a role in democracy. Referring to the parameters of good governance set by the World Bank (WB), he said that greater public participation, rule of law, transparency and accountability are facets of good governance.

“The BJP has tried its hand at good governance. For instance, the public participation in the distribution of water, which was diverted from the Narmada river to the Sabarmati river,” Mr Nadda said.

BJP FOCUSING ON EFFICACY?

Raising questions over the efficacy of democracy, Mr Nadda said that when efficacy is diluted, democracy does not bear the desired fruit. “When democracy does not give you results, questions would be raised over it. This would be a cause for concern. Therefore, the BJP, which is a party in a democratic set up, is cautious about all these issues and keeps focusing on efficacy,” he said. People like to remain in a democratic set-up as they get liberty, Mr Nadda said.
