Mumbai: It’s just the end of monsoon, but several parts of the city are already reeling under water shortage and low pressure water. Corporators across the city on Friday slammed the BMC administration over the inconvenience caused to people due to inadequate water supply.

In the standing committee meeting, corporators from Andheri and Jogeshwari created a large hue and cry alleging that there is no adequate water supply in their areas ever since the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) undertook pipeline improvement works last week.

On September 25-26, the BMC had taken up works of connecting the surface level pipelines to the tunnel between Powai and Veravali section work on which was already completed. It had also announced a two-day water cuts in several parts of western suburbs owing to its upgradation work. However, corporators said that even now several parts of the western suburbs, especially Andheri and Jogeshwari, are reeling under either low-pressure water supply or no water supply at all.

Rajul Patel, Shiv Sena corporator from Andheri said, “My ward area is mostly hilly, but the supply from Veravali reservoir is with very low pressures causing inconvenience to people. Locals have threatened to come out on streets to hold agitation with their empty water tanks and drums. At one side, the BMC is talking of supply 24/7 water, but at the other people are not getting even the regular supply.”

Sujata Sanap, Sena corporator from Fort, said despite registering several complaints, the BMC officials have not been able to solve the water shortage problem in her ward. “They say that the problem is because Fort comes at fag end of the supply network,” she said.
