Mumbai: Amid the Maha Vikas Aghadi’s (MVA) internal differences over the NPR and the transfer of the Elgar Parishad case to the NIA, chief minister Uddhav Thackeray Wednesday said that his party had wasted many years by keeping distance with the NCP.

“We have come together to bring about good work,” he said. His government would carry forward the legacy of Shivaji Maharaj, he added.

On the occasion of Shiv Jayanti Wednesday, the CM visited the Shivneri fort in Junnar tehsil of Pune district in the morning to pay tribute to Shivaji Maharaj. He also announced `23 crore assistance for the development of the fort.

Mr Thackeray said that the cases filed against protesters during the Maratha quota agitation in 2018 will be withdrawn. “The poor and needy feel that this is their government. That is the reason people have come for this 'Shiv Jayanti' function in large numbers. Our government is committed to carrying forward the legacy of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj,” he said after attending a few programmes.

Taking stock of the fort's development works, Mr Thackeray said that `23 crore has been sanctioned for the development of the Shivneri Fort. “Both myself and Ajit Pawar have come together for doing some good constructive work, and I vow that I will not rest till I achieve the goal.”

He also told his deputy chief minister that they “should have come together long ago”. He said that all measures would be taken to preserve  Shivaji Maharaj's forts and memorials.  The government would ensure that the works were not hampered owing to lack of funds.
