The personality war in Samajwadi Party may be over for the time being with chief minister Akhilesh Yadav stealing a march over his uncle Shivpal Yadav but it is now a fresh war that has erupted between the Akhilesh government and the party organisation.

The party and the government are now clearly working at cross-purposes without consulting or taking each other into confidence or even consulting.

Chief minister Akhilesh Yadav, who will be embarking on his rath yatra from November 3, has appointed expelled youth leaders as coordinators for the yatra.

These expelled leaders, who are also the members of the UP legislative council, Sunil Sajan, Sanjay Lathar and Anand Bhadauria, will play key roles in the CM’s yatra — a direct snub to uncle Shivpal Yadav who earlier expelled these leaders on the charges of indiscipline.

The CM at a meeting at his residence earlier this week, specially invited the expelled leaders to a meeting with legislators to finalise the yatra programme.

“The CM did the arrangement for his yatra and the party organisation is informed of the programme,” said a party functionary.

State party president Shivpal Yadav on Wednesday had expelled UP minister Tej Narain Pandey from the party and sent a letter to the CM asking him to remove Mr Pandey from the Cabinet. The CM has almost refused to toe the line and at a government function on Friday the minister was seen playing an important role. Mr Pandey allegedly slapped MLC Ashu Malik, known for his proximity to Mulayam Singh Yadav.
