Mathura violence: BJP leaders stopped from entering Jawahar Bagh
The BJP leaders were on Sunday stopped form entering the Jawahar Bagh in Mathura. The saffron party had sent a fact-finding team, which included MPs Rajendra Agarwal, Rajvir Singh, Rajesh Diwakar, but arguments between the BJP workers and the police over the entry turned ugly and the team was denied entry.
“The Uttar Pradesh government never took any proper measures to prevent such an incident. Central agencies should be brought in to investigate the incident. Our state president has formed a team to look into the incident but they have stopped us form going in,” said senior BJP leader and Union minister Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti.
The Samajwadi Party, meanwhile, accused the BJP of playing politics over the dead. BJP workers, who had attempted to stage a dharna on Saturday, have also been booked for holding an unlawful protest in connection with the incident. “An FIR has been registered against over 50 BJP workers on a complaint of SP leader Mahmood Akhtar for gathering unlawfully to protest,” said ASP Kamlesh Dixit.
During the protest, the BJP workers had burnt an effigy of chief minister Akhilesh Yadav and raised anti-government slogans charging it with being responsible for the Mathura incident.
