‘Eve-teaser’ stabs Class 9 girl in purulia

Class 9 student of Girish Chandra Vidyapith was stabbed by her tormentor when she went to his house with her father to protest his attempt to molest her in Purulia town. The girl and her father who also sustained injuries were admitted at Purulia Sadar Hospital. The accused went absconding after the incident. The girl was later shifted to Bokaro for treatment. The girl, a resident of Rheny Road in Purulia town, had been regularly harassed by a local youth Baban Bauri of Telkolpara on her way to school and tuition. On Tuesday evening when she was returning from her tuition, Baban first teased and then molested her. She returned home and informed her family. Soon after her father took her along and went to the house of the accused to lodge a complaint. There was a heated exchange between the two sides. Baban picked up a knife from his house and stabbed her. When her father Bablu tried to rescue her, he too was hit on the forehead. “Baban regularly harassed my daughter. We went to his house to protest, he stabbed Sonali and when I tried to save her, he also attacked me,” the girl’s father said. After the incident, Baban escaped. Superintendent of police, Purulia, K. Sudhakar said that the police had launched a manhunt for Baban.
