High alert on railway stations after ‘letter threat’
According to senior Railway officials, the police Rohtak said they had received a letter written in Hindi that was signed by one Masood Ahmed.
New Delhi: Security of Railway stations has been increased after Haryana Police received a letter purportedly written by terror group Jaish-e-Mohammed, threatening to bomb stations in Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru etc.
According to senior Railway officials, the police Rohtak said they had received a letter written in Hindi that was signed by one Masood Ahmed. The letter talked about bombing stations in Rohtak, Kurukshetra, Hissar, Jaipur, Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru.
While the police is trying to ascertain the veracity of this letter since Railways often gets such threats, the Director General of Railway Protection Force (RPF) Mr Arun Kumar told this paper that all such letters and threats are taken seriously and security has been upgraded accordingly.
Apart from coordinating with intelligence agencies, the Railways is also putting in place an integrated security system, the pilot project for which is complete in 202 stations. As part of the integrated security system, all unused entry and exit points at Railway stations have been closed.
