Roy started his career in PR with a global consumer appliance corporation and started Homeliness on the side
Homeliness founder and chief editor Sourav Roy has spent his entire life looking for innovative ways to connect with others so that their lives are made easier. He has found his niche with helping individuals and families find the right home appliances.
Roy started his career in public relations with a global consumer appliance corporation, one of the largest in the industry, and started Homeliness on the side. In the past few years, Sourav transitioned the Homeliness website from his side hobby to his full-time career; he is now the chief editor of the review website.
Thank you for taking the time to speak with us, Sourav. Would you first tell us a bit about your background?
I received my education at the University of Calcutta, and then went right into a public relations job for a large, international corporation. During my time there, I learned about all sorts of new innovations in home appliances – what people wanted, what people were willing to pay for, and how they helped people.
I knew my knowledge could help people, so I started Homeliness as a side thing. But, the stress and demands of working for a large corporation wore me down, so I decided to transition to full time work with Homeliness. Now, I provide the most up to date info about new home appliances, electronics, and other products in the Indian market.
What is Homeliness?
Homeliness is, in short, a place where people shopping for home appliances and other products can go to learn about and compare different options. The internet makes it easy to compare products, but Homeliness was designed to be a “one stop shop” for consumers who didn’t want to spend hours and hours visiting multiple websites to get info about potential purchases.
With the help of my team of five writers, I’ve been able to expand what we talk about so that more consumers can come to our website to get info. We keep up with the demands of the market and learn as much as possible about new technology so that we can share that info with savvy consumers.
Why do review sites matter?
When you’re buying something that is several hundred dollars, you need to be sure that it has all of the things you want. The little details matter, and I learned how to really explore the little details when I was a PR professional. Now, those little details go into all of our review articles, which allows our visitors to know pretty much everything they need to know before they go ahead and make a purchase. That attention to detail sets us apart from other Indian review websites, I believe.
