Woman strangles 2 daughters to death, hangs self
In a shocking incident, a 27-year-old woman strangled her two daughters to death before committing suicide in outer Delhi’s Bhalswa Dairy area on Saturday afternoon.
When the woman’s husband returned home he found his wife hanging from the ceiling fan and daughters lying on the bed after which he took them to the hospital in his e-rickshaw where the doctors declared them dead on arrival.
According to the police, the incident came to the fore when the hospital authorities informed them about the incident. The deceased have been identified as Preeti, 27, her daughters, Anushka, 5, and Kanishka, 3. Her husband has been identified as Hari, 30, who is a native of Bihar and has been staying in JJ clusters in Bhalswa Dairy. He drives e-rickshaw for living.
The police said that during investigations it was learnt that the couple often had fights as Hari was an alcoholic and a gambler. “The couple would often have fights as Hari would spend all the money on his habits, leaving nothing for Preeti and her daughters,” said a senior police officer, adding, “On Saturday afternoon Preeti asked some money from Hari for festival shopping but Hari refused and even beat her up.” “On this she locked herself up in the room.”
The police added that Hari sat for sometime outside the room but then left. “When, he returned at about 5 pm he saw the door still closed,” said the police, adding, “When despite repeated knockings she did not open the door, he broke it open to find her hanging from the ceiling fan and his daughters lying on the bed.”
“He immediately moved all three into his e-rickshaw and took them to the hospital without informing the police.”
The police said that doctors declared then dead and informed them. Their bodies were sent for an autopsy. “There were marks on the neck of the two daughters suggesting that they were smothered to death by their mother who later committed suicide.”
A case under relevant sections has been registered at the local police station and Hari has been detained. “He may be arrested for abetment of suicide,” added the cops.
