Tutor held for sexually assaulting 9-year-old girl
A 19-year-old tutor was arrested by the Delhi police for allegedly sexually assaulting a nine-year-old girl for the past few months in northeast Delhi’s Seelampur area. According to the police, the incident came to the fore when a video was shown to students of the school as part of the Delhi police’s operation Nirbhik.
The police said that after watching the video, the victim told her school teacher that her tutor has been assaulting her. Immediately, the school principal was contacted and the police was informed about the incident. Later the accused, identified as Sonu, was arrested from his house.
The police said that during investigations it was learnt that the victim used to go to Sonu’s house to take tuition. “He revealed that after completion of the class he would ask the victim to stay back and then sexually assault her,” said a senior police officer, adding, “He also threatened her of dire consequences if she told about the incidents to anyone.” The police added that a case under relevant section has been registered at the Seelampur police station and further investigations are on. The victim is a Class 5 student, said the cops, adding, “We are now trying to get her counselled through an NGO.”
The police added that their operation Nirbhik is yielding results and are hoping for more such revelations in the coming days. “We are happy to see the success of this exercise and we would urge the school authorities to promote this,” added the senior police officer.
Investigating officials said that they are interrogating Sonu further to ascertain whether he assaulted other girls too.
