Senior citizen held hostage is rescued
A senior citizen, who had allegedly been tortured and held hostage at her house for over seven years by her son and daughter-in-law, was rescued by an NGO with the help of the Delhi police.
According to the information, BJP councillor Shobha Vijender, who runs an NGO with the name of Sampurna, got a tip-off that a woman was being held hostage in a room by her own son and daughter-in-law.
Ms Shobha immediately contacted the Delhi police after which a team was formed to rescue the woman.
The police team, along with the volunteers of the NGO, reached the address and rescued the woman who was in a miserable condition.
“The entire room was filthy. The woman was not even being served food on time. She was held hostage for more than seven years by her son and daughter-in-law, who also subjected her to cruelty,” said Ms Shobha.
A police source said that the woman had also written a letter in which she had described the torture she was being subjected to.
“My son beats me over petty issues. He wants me to die as soon as possible,” read the letter written by the victim. When the volunteers of the NGO tried to speak to her son, the accused locked himself inside a room.
The granddaughter of the victim said that she too wanted that the victim should be taken to old home.
